This is a nice article on the AIGA website, about they types of traits you might expect to find in people who are in the design field. The main point to the article is pointing out the different approach that many designers have. Designers often seek out problems and strive to solve them, applying lessons they learned from past projects but not limiting themselves form trying something new. They will also try and understand not just the problem but also the underlying framework that caused it, this understanding can often lead to better solutions for both the short and long term. Good designs also pay attention to human behavior and how and why people react to different forms of expression. Overall the impression that I get is that designers will tackle most any problem and try different versions of their solution making iterations of the product or design until it performs at the level they expect.
